If the ear canal is blocked with earwax do not use ear buds to try and clean it. This is likely to make the problem worse by pushing the wax further into the ear. Ear drops readily available at chemists can soften the earwax to help remove it, olive oil also a good substitute.
However, if this does not work you may need ear irrigation, a procedure involving warm water being flowed back and forth into the ear to remove the earwax, or a suction apparatus may in some cases be used. These procedures can sometimes be painful depending on the severity of the condition.
